At last night’s Board of Education meeting, Trustees approved several action and consent items that support student achievement, well-being, safety, and equitable access to high-quality educational opportunities.
We are grateful to our Trustees for their continued commitment to providing the resources our students need to be engaged, educated, and empowered.
Highlights include:
Early literacy and mathematics: Accepted a $100,000 grant from Santa Clara County to fund paraprofessionals who will provide targeted, small-group instruction for students in transitional kindergarten through first grade.
Student technology: Approved the replacement of 100 iPads for TK, first-grade, and Special Day Class programs, as well as 120 Chromebooks for students in grades 2–8.
English Learner support: Approved the Ellevation platform to strengthen progress monitoring, targeted support, reporting, and reclassification readiness for English Learners.
Attendance and family engagement: Approved ParentSquare Attendance Plus to identify attendance concerns early, coordinate interventions, monitor chronic absenteeism, and strengthen communication with families.
Reading assessment and intervention: Expanded DIBELS 8th Edition into grade 3 and approved related professional development to help educators identify reading gaps, monitor student progress, and provide targeted instruction.
Positive school climate: Approved training and coaching from the Santa Clara County Office of Education in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The services include behavioral interventions, family engagement, and preparation for PBIS recognition.
Individualized learning support: Approved supplemental STAR Autism Support curriculum materials to provide individualized instruction in communication, academics, behavior, social-emotional development, adaptive skills, and school readiness.
Athletics and student engagement: Approved participation in the REA2CH Middle School Athletic League, expanding opportunities for organized sports, teamwork, wellness, and school connectedness.
After-school arts: Approved an agreement with ArtHouse Studio to expand student access to art instruction beyond the regular school day.
Student and staff safety: Approved three years of inspection, maintenance, equipment tracking, and program support for the school’s three automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
Student health services: Renewed vision, hearing, and health-screening services that support student wellness, special education evaluations, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) decisions.
District staffing: Approved new hires and other personnel actions needed to support district schools and programs.
Together, these actions advance the district’s LCAP priorities by strengthening academic achievement, individualized student support, English Learner services, attendance, wellness, school climate, enrichment opportunities, staff capacity, and equitable access to technology.
These investments reflect our district’s mission to Engage, Educate, and Empower students to become confident learners, collaborative problem-solvers, and leaders in their community and beyond.
